Off grid renewable energy production

Infrastructure

Energy

Challenge Background

A significant proportion of the Nigerian population does not have access to consistent power supply. This is due to a variety of factors including the limited number of clean and renewable electricity generation companies; limited access to the national grid; continuous energy policy summersault by successive governments; high cost of renewable energy generation equipment and accessories, and inaccessibility due to peculiar terrain. This lack of access to the requisite level of energy supply limits the ability to access contemporary knowledge and leads to low literacy. This challenge also causes low economic activities leading to the shutting down of organizations and massive loss of labour, low food production, inability to deploy contemporary irrigation and other farming processes and inability to preserve easily perishable farm products, high cost of agricultural products, food shortage and unreasonable felling of trees in rural areas for cooking. This poor access to power also limits access to hygienic water.
