Challenge Background
An estimated 84% of households lack access to quality cooking fuels. In addition, wood fuel is still the main source of energy for cooking and heating for 56% of the population, thus nearly 30 million households and more than 100 million Nigerians depend on wood as a source of fuel for cooking. The situation is worst in the remote areas. People in the remote areas are forced to depend solely on wood and charcoal for cooking. Besides, few ones are relied on fossil fuel for cooling which are not eco-friendly, and lead to harmful consequences to human health.
